General:
Annual or biennial herb from a taproot; stems simple to freely branched, (10) 20-60 cm tall, usually somewhat short-hairy or hairy below, glabrous and glaucous above.

Leaves:
Leave of 2 distinct types; basal leaves 2- to 3- times pinnately cut into linear segments, to 10 cm long, long-stalked; lower stem leaves usually similar; middle and upper leaves suborbicular, deeply heart-shaped and clasping with slightly overlapping lobes, thus appearing as if the stem passes through the leaf.

Flowers:
Flower stalks slender, round in cross section, usually somewhat longer than the silicles; petals pale yellow, about 1.5 mm long (half length of sepals), narrowly spoon-shaped.

Fruits:
Silicles, spreading, suborbicular, 3-4 mm long and wide, glabrous or rarely slightly hairy, barely winged at the tips, slightly notched; sinuses about 0.2 mm deep; beaks about equalling the sinus.
